Sowell Architects was founded by Rik Sowell in 1995 as a full-service architectural firm. In 2025, we introduced an updated name and look as longtime partners Emily and Cody Ferris became owners. Sowell Ferris Architects is continuing the legacy of thoughtful design and dedicated client service.
Most of our clients do not have unlimited funding. We believe that a project can be attractive and functional even with a tight budget. We strive to achieve that balance between aesthetics, function and cost. Our goal is to be practical and responsible with the client’s money. Good architecture must address the ultimate goals and unique characteristics of each project. No two projects are the same. We will approach each new project from a fresh point of view. Our goal is to make your project as smooth and efficient as possible.

Rik graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington and has 45 years of experience in the architectural field serving in various roles. He founded Sowell Architects in 1995 and was instrumental in hundreds of successful projects in Central Arkansas. Rik retired in 2025, leaving a remarkable legacy defined by vision, leadership, and a commitment to generosity and service. His dedication continues to inspire our work today.

Cody was born and raised in Joplin, Missouri. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arkansas School of Architecture. He has over 17 years of experience in the architectural industry serving a multitude of clients in the public and private sector. Cody has an eye for design and his hands-on construction experience make him a valuable asset to the team.

Emily is a Conway native and Valedictorian of her graduating class at the University of Arkansas School of Architecture. She has over 18 years of experience practicing architecture throughout the state of Arkansas. Emily strives to produce thoughtful, efficient designs that meet and exceed the desired end use and client expectations. Her strong work ethic and attention to detail continues to shine throughout her professional work.

J.T. completed his Drafting and Design degree from the University of Arkansas Community College in Morrilton and joined our team in 2024. He approaches every project with an unwavering commitment to precision and excellence. J.T. ensures that whether it be a small or large project, it is executed with the utmost care.

Avery grew up in Lavaca, Arkansas and recently graduated from UCA with her Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design. Avery has 2 years of experience in the design field, working hand in hand with clients. She believes in the importance of universal design and creating spaces that meet the unique needs and wants of each client.
